I have posted below the next work on tabloid journalism for those who have completed the previous assignment on the psychology behind gossip. For those of you who have not finished that work, please send it along by the end of class today.
Learning Targets:
1. I can draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
2. I can conduct a short research projects to answer a question, synthesizing multiple sources on the subject, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation.
Essential Question: How do the language techniques in tabloid journalism mirror its content?
Below you will find a selection of the "most popular gossip sites" taken from Forbes magazine. DAY 1: Today I'd like you to browse the sites. Find five articles from five different sites (that's a total of 5), copy and paste the article, including the title and writer, onto a word document. DAY 2: Read through the articles you have copied onto your word document and annotate on the following: content, organization, tone, language, syntax. Think about your target audience, photos, punctuation, whose being quoted, are these sources authoritative and topics covered.
Be aware of the textual evidence that corresponds. DAY 2 / DAY 3 When you have finished taking your notes, please respond to the following:
How do these compare to mainstream articles?
In approximately 300 words, respond to these questions in essay format: What commonalities do you find within these articles? What ethical problems do you note? What purpose do these writings serve?
This is due by midnight on Sunday, February 28.
