Editorial Proposal: Bystander Intervention

Do bystanders have a responsibility to intervene when there is trouble?
POINT OF VIEWS Austin ­ Morals Jenna ­ civic duty Birnela ­ certain situations Jacob ­ historical Birnela is going to write about when bystanders should intervene. In certain situations it is not safe for a bystander to intervene. many people don't want to deal with legal repercussions and interrogations about a certain incident and choose to avoid intervening. Austin is writing about morals and why people are morally obligated to intervene in confrontations. Jenna is going to be writing about civic duty. In any certain situation every citizen needs to intervene to protect the public's safety. Jacob is writing about historically how people have intervened when other citizens are in trouble. By judging in relation to the present day, it is possible to determine whether or not people have felt more or less obligated to intervene.

  1. The topic that you guys have chose is a very controversial idea and I'm sure the response you're going to get after you've finished will be interesting. I think you guys would benefit to talking to students o try to get their opinion on it. I feel this would resonate more with younger students maybe like 7th to 9th graders because older students don't really seem to be involved in confrontations from my opinion. Overall good topic I'm excited to see your guys' opinions on it.

  3. This is a very important topic because I've experienced this in previous years and even a little now. I find that intervening at the right time could be the difference between life and death. I personally feel that if I'm in a situation where it's really serious I'd would like some help and i would help someone if they were in a serious situation.

  4. This is a very important topic in our society. We experience these situations in our every day life. Personally, I always try to intervene in serious situations just because of the person I am. I am always trying to help other or deescalate situations. I can't wait to read you guys' article. This is very intriguing to me to see everyone's opinions.

  6. I really like your umbrella idea! This really go me thinking and would interest me when you guys have finished writing it. I really like that your topics are all so closely related, but are all very different points of view. I especially like the differentiation between moral obligation and civic duty, closely related but very different in what responses could be given. Are you using polls from SOTA or online statistics?
